Shopping holiday history
Black Friday (as a term for the shopping holiday) was first dubbed in 1950s Philadelphia. Cyber Monday, of course, had a much later start! The first Monday after the Thanksgiving holiday was first labeled as “Cyber Monday” in 2005.
Back then, Internet speeds in most homes were much slower. So, anyone who had faster Internet speeds available at work would wait until their return to the office after the Thanksgiving holiday. There, they’d check online deals and price compare!
