Honoring 250 Years of Valor
2025’s Coinage Tributes to the United States Marine Corps

This year, the United States Marine Corps (USMC) celebrates a monumental milestone – its 250th anniversary! In honor of this historic occasion, a special series of U.S. commemorative coins is being released.

One-year commemorative coin designs

All three coins in the series display the same reverse design – the official emblem of the Marine Corps. Its eagle, globe and anchor layout was officially adopted in 1955 following an Executive Order by then-president Dwight D. Eisenhower. Three different USMC 250th anniversary coin obverse designs are available, each meticulously designed to honor the rich history and enduring legacy of the Marine Corps:

Half Dollar – two Marines are shown on the obverse – one in a continental uniform with a musket, the other in modern-day camouflage with a service rifle. Bears the “S” mint mark of San Francisco.

Silver Dollar – displays the iconic flag raising at Iwo Jima during WWII. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 99.9% pure silver!

$5 Gold Coin – hailing from the prestigious West Point Mint, this 90% gold coin depicts a Marine Corps color guard.

From 2005 to today

In an intriguing nod to the past, both the common reverse – and the silver dollar obverse – are the same as those used on the uber-popular 2005 Marines Silver Dollar coin! Sold from late July through the end of 2005, this silver dollar was sold out completely. Now, 20 years later, this coin remains popular with collectors… and I’m intrigued to see how quickly these new releases are snapped up!

A proud history

Founded in November 1775 during the Revolutionary War, the U.S. Marine Corps is a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. Initially created to serve as landing forces for the Continental Navy, the Marines have since evolved into a versatile and elite military branch. They are known for their rapid deployment capabilities, amphibious warfare expertise, and rigorous training. The USMC’s motto, “Semper Fidelis” (Always Faithful), reflects their commitment to duty and country. Whether you’re a coin collector, a Marine Corps veteran, or simply someone who appreciates the rich history of the United States, the USMC 250th anniversary coins offer a great opportunity. Take part in this historic celebration, and honor “the few, the proud” who have served our nation with distinction for the last 250 years!
