Out with the old…
Ringing 2025 in with the new!

America 250th Niue Half Dollar Series - Littleton Coin Blog

The start of a new year always brings so many possibilities with it. Maybe this is the year I learn a different language, beat my reading goal or start a new collection! It’s fun to imagine what the next 12 months will bring.

Of course, the new year means the country will be moving forward as well. Which has me thinking about what type of change the U.S. Mint has in store. What will the new 2025 coin designs be? Who will I learn about? Which coin will be my favorite? If they’re anything like 2024’s, I think we’re in for a great year.

Although, that’s not to forget Littleton’s exclusive releases. With our popular items celebrating America’s 250th anniversary, challenge coins and so much more, 2025 is sure to be one for the (coin) books!

New Year, New Coins

Every year collectors across the country eagerly wait to see what the year’s designs will be. In fact, in 2025, we can expect 10 new regular-issue releases!

First 2025 Women quarter - Ida B. Wells - Littleton Coin Blog

A favorite among collectors young and old, the U.S. Women quarter series began in 2022. However, all good things must come to an end and the new 2025 coin designs will be the last in this series honoring American women. We’ll see the faces of:

  • Ida B. Wells – a journalist who wrote about the struggles of African Americans
  • Juliette Gordon Low – the founder of America’s beloved Girl Scouts
  • Dr. Vera Rubin – an astronomer who charted galaxies and encountered dark matter
  • Stacey Park Milbern – an advocate for members of the disabled community
  • Althea Gibson – the first African American tennis player at Wimbledon

Next up, we have the American Innovation dollar series. Running from 2018 through 2032, every year 4 coins are released celebrating inventions from four different states. Modeled after the Statehood quarters which were released in the order they became states, the 2025 dollars will feature:

  • Arkansas
  • Michigan
  • Florida
  • Texas

Last – but definitely not least – we can’t help but look forward to the yearly release of the Native American dollar! Paying tribute to America’s Indigenous Peoples and their contributions to the U.S., this year’s coin celebrates the life of Native Hawaiian scholar, Mary Kawena Pukui. A talented hula dancer who worked tirelessly to preserve Hawaiian culture, Pukui published English translations of the island’s oral traditions and even co-authored the Hawaiian-English Dictionary.

Here at Littleton, we’re counting down the seconds until 2025 and all the new releases that come with it.

Travel the Globe this Year

Although it isn’t just coins from the U.S. that we’re impatiently awaiting.

One theme we’ll be seeing a lot of comes from the Chinese calendar. Following a 12-year cycle, the Year of the Snake will be celebrated on currency from countries like Fiji, Mongolia and more.  It’s said that those who are born under this zodiac sign are intuitive, determined and talented speakers.

Well-loved by collectors across the globe, the Chinese Panda coins honor one of the world’s cutest animals. A touching tribute to the bamboo loving bear, these coins were first introduced more than 40 years ago in 1983. Struck in 99.9% pure silver, every year the reverse depicts the panda in different scenes.

A personal favorite of mine is the Australian Kookaburra. Issued for the first time in 1990, the obverse of the silver coin displays the current British monarch – first Queen Elizabeth II and now King Charles III. But it’s the reverse that’s the real show stopper with changing designs honoring the world’s largest kingfisher.

With so many coin designs to look forward to from near and far, we’ll gladly raise a toast to the new year.
