In 2020, Littleton Coin Company will celebrate its 75th anniversary. It’s a proud milestone for all of us at Littleton Coin. It’s a time to thank our customers for 75 years of support with special anniversary savings and deals. And it’s a time to share some interesting stories from our company’s past. Here’s a sneak peek:

  • Maynard and Fannie Sundman - Littleton Coin BlogHow we got started in Littleton – Littleton Coin Company was founded by Maynard and Fannie Sundman in late 1945 (see 1945 coins), soon after Maynard’s discharge from military service during WWII. They had run a mail-order collectibles business in Connecticut before the war, but were looking for a good new location.   • Hitler stamps are a blockbuster hit – we sold stamps during the early years of the company. And our customer list surged when Maynard offered a free set of 10 Bohemia-Moravia stamps depicting “the infamous Adolf Hitler.” Learn more about it during our anniversary year!
  • Rena the fly fisherwoman – during the 1950s, expert fly fisherwoman and Littleton Coin employee Rena Hood became a customer service phenomenon. Her honest, homespun notes and letters to customers were filled with sound advice. And perhaps a bit about a recent fishing adventure. Her unique style was adored. And she received thousands of customer letters, phone calls and personal visits throughout her career…
  • Max the world traveler – born in Belorussia, married to a French woman and living in Montreal, Quebec, Max Yas spoke numerous languages. He traveled the world for decades – buying coins and banknotes from hundreds of different countries for Littleton Coin Company…
  • Concentrating on coins and paper money – after selling both coins and stamps for many years, the Sundmans purchased Mystic Stamp Company in Camden, NY. During the 1980s, they consolidated their stamp inventory in Camden so the Littleton operation could concentrate on coins and paper money…
  • Statehood Quarter Program - Littleton Coin BlogStatehood Quarters provide a big boost – the Statehood quarters, with 5 new designs each year from 1999-2008, created millions of new coin collectors. And spurred the growth of Littleton’s coin business…
  • Becoming employee-owned and operated – after over 70 years as a family-run business, LCC became 100% employee-owned and operated in 2017 through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). It has given all of us at Littleton Coin even greater motivation to provide the best possible service to our customers…
